Charlie - Chief of Mountains & The Sea

Charlie - Chief of Mountains & The Sea

A Royal Naval Officer, Submariner, Engineer, Leadership Instructor, Coach, Shipping Executive, Diver, Amateur Cyclist, Runner, Paddler and Swimmer.  It is fair to say a jack of all trades and well, he says he  is still working on mastering at least a few of them!

Charlie fell in love with the North of Tenerife many years ago, when he first travelled there with his wife.  So very different from other parts of the island, the cooling forests and the rural environment was a playground for everything he enjoys doing.  His passion is to share that joy with others and explore the real Tenerife and all it has to offer.

James

James

James is our guide to the mountains, he was a professional mountainbiker, racing at the highest level and travelling the World all the major UCI mountain bike races and good enough to have a Wikipedia entry. He now resides on the small Canarian Island of Tenerife and since 2005 he has worked as a guide in Europe and the British Isles.  He has been walking and cycling the mountains of Anaga, Teide and the other Islands for the last 2 decades.

Cristi

Cristi

Cristi, is our yoga guide and also a keen cyclist and was born and raised in the region of the retreat. A school teacher in French and Spanish, her first encounter with yoga was in 2001 in Alanta, Ga and later in 2003, she met Micheline Flak while living in France. Ms Flak had introduced yoga in the French classrooms in 1973 to help her students learning processes.

She inspired Cristi to introduce "kinesthetic learning" in the Spanish classrooms. Alongside her job, being an avid cycletourist (like her husbdand James) and cycling to work daily made yoga the perfect complement to her life in order to have a real holistic approach to health.

In 2020 Cristi stopped teaching in high school in order to study yoga deeper and it has become her main priority in life.  She finds yoga a powerful tool not only as a mean of self development but as a major way to help others to develop their full potential

Tegueste - Gateway to Anaga

A playground for the active

Tegueste is a very beautiful, historic but small town with an atmosphere that carries a pure, traditional Canarian vibe dominated by farm crops, vineyards and historical buildings in the heart of the town and many festivals throughout the year. Tegueste takes its name from the old kingdom, or Guanche menceyato, of Tegueste; word that some experts translate as wet, so be warned it is not 365 days of sunshine!  But that also leads to the amazing Anaga Park and also some very delicious wines.  There are some 31 vineyards in the region and wine tours are available.  A short journey down the hill lies the rugged coast with plenty of unique places to get a swim in!

Reviews

Fantastic week in Tenerife - Mountains and the Sea, as promised! Walks, swims, yoga, shinrin yoku (forest therapy), delicious food and drink, sea kayaking. A fantastic week and really what I needed. Charlie made everything very easy and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an active holiday without needing to think too much about logistics.

Donna E

Just returned from a wonderful visit. Swimming in the sea, cycling in the mountains, long treks, mountain biking and yoga all made for an action packed holiday. Charlie tailored the activities perfectly for our ability levels and was a wonderful guide and host. Accommodation was great and the places we went to eat were fab too. Would definitely recommend for anyone who’s after a tailored activity holiday.

John Murphy

Charlie and his family provide a really nice way of enjoying and exploring the beautiful Anaga and La Laguna area. They hosted me for a week, which was filled with activities like road biking, mountain biking, Yin Yoga, swimming in the 'Piscinas Naturales' in Bajamar, and Forest Bathing Therapy 'Indulge yourself with all the good things the laurel forests have to offer you, and meditate' with Thomas.

Alex Matatula

had an amazing start of the new year at Tenerife. A week full of outdoor activity (hiking, swimming, kayaking, yoga), beautiful landscapes, amazing food and wonderful people. The accommodation was wonderful and the views amazing. I felt really at home and part of the family. Keep the personal touch Charlie, I loved it! Would love to come back for more.
